⚠️ Latest Travel Updates
Cyprus Travel Update
The UK FCDO is not currently advising against travel to Cyprus, meaning holidays to the island are still going ahead as normal.
However, the advice was updated on 5 March 2026 following a suspected drone impact at RAF Akrotiri, and the FCDO says that wider regional tensions could lead to security risks and potential travel disruption.
If you’re travelling to Cyprus soon, keep an eye on airline updates, follow local guidance and check the latest FCDO advice before departure.
And as always, make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers unexpected disruption.
Cyprus remains one of the Mediterranean’s most popular destinations — with its warm climate, historic sites and beautiful coastline — but staying informed before travelling is always the best approach.
If you are thinking about or going to Cyprus – see our blog for ideas and inspiration.

💡Top Travel Tip
✈️ Travel Tip — If the FCDO Changes Travel Advice Before You Fly
If the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) changes the travel advice for your destination before departure, don’t panic — but do act quickly.
First, check the exact wording of the advice. There’s a big difference between “exercise increased caution” and “advise against all travel”.
If the advice changes to “against all travel” or “against all but essential travel”, most travel insurance policies will no longer cover the trip — but airlines and package providers will usually offer changes, credit, or refunds.
Next, contact your airline, tour operator, or booking provider to see what options are available. Many will offer free changes when official government advice changes.
Finally, check your travel insurance policy wording. If the trip becomes non-covered after booking, your insurer may still guide you on what your options are.
💡 Tip: Always check FCDO advice a few days before travel, not just when booking.

🍀Dublin
Fun fact: Dublin’s St Patrick’s Festival runs for several days, not just 17 March — with hundreds of performers and marching bands from around the world taking part in the main parade.
💡 How to Do It:
✈️ Airport: Dublin (DUB)
🕒 Flight time: approx. 1h–1h 20m from most UK airports. Fares can start from around £15 one way depending on route and season.
🚖 Transfers: Transfer into the city centre takes around 20–30 minutes. Pre-book if arriving on parade weekend — it gets busy.
🏨 Where to stay:
Best overall location: City Centre / St Stephen’s Green (walk everywhere, good balance of energy and comfort)
If you want to be in the middle of it: Temple Bar (maximum atmosphere, expect noise and higher rates)
Quieter option: Docklands or Ballsbridge (easy access, calmer evenings)
Self-catering option: Apartments around Docklands, Smithfield or Grand Canal offer more space and flexibility — ideal for groups or longer stays during the busy parade weekend.
📦 Packages: March flight-and-hotel bundles usually offer better value than booking separately — especially for peak parade dates when city-centre hotels sell out fast.
🎟️ Must-do experiences: National St Patrick’s Day Parade, live traditional music sessions, Guinness Storehouse, Temple Bar atmosphere, coastal walk in Howth for a breather from the crowds. ✨
🧳 Top tip: Use Bounce to store luggage before check-in or after check-out and make the most of your day.
🍀Cork

💡 How to Do It:
✈️ Airport: Cork (ORK)
🕒 Flight time: approx. 1h–1h 20m from many UK airports. Fares can start from around £18 one way depending on route and season.
🚖 Transfers: Cork Airport is just 15–20 minutes from the city centre. Pre-book if arriving on parade weekend — it can get busy.

If you want to be close to the action: Around Oliver Plunkett Street for easy access to bars and live music
Quieter option: Victorian Quarter or near the River Lee (central but calmer in the evenings)
Self-catering option: Apartments around the city centre or near the River Lee offer extra space and flexibility — ideal for groups or longer St Patrick’s stays.
📦 Packages: March flight-and-hotel bundles often offer better overall value than booking separately — especially as central hotels fill quickly for parade weekend.
🎟️ Must-do experiences: Cork’s St Patrick’s Day Parade, traditional music sessions in cosy pubs, English Market food stops, day trip to Kinsale, scenic drives along the Wild Atlantic Way – hire a car here.

💚 Chicago
Fun fact: Chicago has been dyeing its river green since 1962 — and the exact dye formula is still kept secret.
💡 How to Do It:
✈️ Airport: Chicago O’Hare (ORD) or Chicago Midway (MDW)
🕒 Flight time: approx. 8–9 hours from the UK. Fares can vary widely around event dates, so early booking makes a difference.
🛫 Buy flights: Compare fares early — St Patrick’s weekend can push prices up quickly.
🚖 Transfers: Pre-book your airport transfer for a smoother arrival — especially on St Patrick’s weekend when the city gets busy. O’Hare to downtown takes around 35–45 minutes depending on traffic.
🏨 Where to stay:
Best overall location: River North or The Loop (walk to river viewing points and skyline attractions)
If you want to be in the middle of it: Stay close to Michigan Avenue for easy access to river bridges and parade routes
Quieter option: West Loop (great restaurants, slightly calmer evenings)
Self-catering option: Downtown apartments offer extra space — ideal for groups travelling together for the event weekend.
📦 Packages: US flight-and-hotel bundles can help smooth out peak event pricing and often offer better overall value than booking separately.
🎟️ Must-do experiences:
Watch the river dyeing from a bridge early in the morning, explore Millennium Park, skyline views from 360 Chicago, architectural river cruise, deep-dish pizza night.
🚗 Car hire: If you plan to explore beyond the city — Lake Michigan shoreline, small Illinois towns or even a road trip extension — hiring a car gives you flexibility. For city-only stays, public transport is usually easier.
