š“ Cabana Bay Beach Resort Review ā A Couple’s Stay

Our stay at Universalās Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando, Florida was nothing short of magical. We booked a Volcano Bay View Standard Room and spent three nights soaking up the retro vibes, poolside fun, and easy access to the Universal theme parks. If youāre looking for retro charm, fun vibes, and a perfect location for Universalās parks, Cabana Bay Beach Resort could be just the ticket. Hereās how it went! The dĆ©cor of the hotel was bright and colourful, with nostalgic design elements throughout ā both outside and inside. Guests at Cabana Bay have a private entrance all their own into Volcano Bay! You still need ticket’s into the park and your room key to enter.

š A Room with a View ā Volcano Bay in Sight!
There were thoughtful touches too ā an extendable line in the shower for drying swimwear, free pool towels, and complimentary tea and coffee in the room.
Our 300-square-foot room overlooked the vibrant Volcano Bay water park, giving us an incredible view right from the window, day and night ā a real treat! We had a standard twin room with two king-size beds, which were very comfortable. Our room had a flat-screen TV and a mini refrigerator, making it a cosy and convenient home base after a long park day. Don’t worry British readers – Tea and coffee facilities were provided!
The bathroom came stocked with toiletries, and there was even a handy extendable line in the shower for drying swimming costumes. Pool towels were available free of charge from the poolside ā a nice bonus. We don’t know about you but when in Orlando – you just have to buy a themed towel anyway, head to the 192 or I-Drive for the best choice and price.
We felt the room was perfectly suitable for four adults. There was no housekeeping during our three-night stay, though weāve since learned that housekeeping at Universalās Cabana Bay Beach Resort is meant to be provided every other day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. That said, other guest reviews mention varied experiences too.
š§“ Tip: If you need extra towels, toiletries, or trash removal on non-service days, you can request them from reception or housekeeping directly.

šļø Pools, Lazy Rivers & Movie Nights Under the Stars

The pool area really impressed us. There are two relaxing pool areas, each with its own unique vibe. You’ll find sandy beaches, fire pits for roasting marshmallows in the evening, and plenty of outdoor lounging areas with postcard-perfect views of the retro-style hotel surroundings. Inside the giant decorative diving tower, thereās a 100-foot-long waterslide, which was great fun! Add in the lazy river, hot tub, and loads of comfy seating, and youāve got everything you need for a proper pool day.
We also noticed that there were lots of sunloungers available, and during our stay, we didnāt see any towel-saving ā no one was reserving beds early and disappearing for hours, which was a refreshing change!
š Tip: Youāll need a float to go into the Lazy River ā you can rent one from the resort, or theyāll happily inflate your own if you bring one along.

š¹ Feeling peckish? Both pool areas offer poolside bars and snack shacks, so you can grab a drink or bite without leaving the sun.
One of our favourite moments was watching Grease at the movie night held by the pool! It was such a unique and fun experience ā floating in the water or relaxing on your lounger while a classic film played on the big screen under the stars.
šŗ Want a little privacy while you chill by the pool? You can rent a private cabana, which includes shade, HDTV, Wi-Fi, a mini fridge stocked with water, an overhead fan, a safe, and comfy seating ā ideal for families or just relaxing in peace between dips.
ā±ļøPool Day Tips
ā
Bring your own float ā Youāll need one for the lazy river! Rentals are available, but the resort will also inflate your own for free.
ā
Plenty of loungers ā We never struggled to find a sunbed, and there was no sign of the usual towel-saving antics!
ā
Sun protection is a must ā Donāt get caught out and pay theme park prices! Bring your own sun cream, hats, and cover-ups. Stores like Walmart, Target, or discount outlets often have great deals on high-SPF sunscreen and essentials before you arrive.
š½ļø Dining & Drinks at Cabana Bay

There are plenty of dining options on-site, offering everything from grab-and-go breakfasts to casual dinners and sweet treats. We found the food tasty, with something to suit everyone ā but be prepared for theme park pricing. Itās not cheap, but itās definitely convenient when youāre too tired to venture far after a day at the parks.
We opted for the refillable drink cup, which seemed like a good deal ā unlimited refills using the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines scattered around the hotel. However, we later discovered itās only refillable at the hotels, not in the Universal parks. That felt a bit sneaky, and it wasnāt clearly explained at purchase, so just something to be aware of. That said, it was still really handy around the pool and between meals.
Here are your options and what we think is worth tyring:
All dining options are located on-site at Cabana Bay Beach Resort ā no reservation needed!

š§³ Things We Took (and Would Pack Again!)

š Lazy River Float
Bring your own inflatable and save the rental fee. Bonus: theyāll inflate it for free at Cabana Bay!
Tried & Tested: Top Right; we have tried and tested and can confirm you can float for hours on it, it’s easy to get on and off and even read a book / hold a drink while on it.
š§“ Sun Protection Kit
Grab sunscreen, after-sun, and lip balm at Walmart or Target before you go, or even better before you fly ā theme park prices sting!
š Lightweight Day Bag
Great for carrying snacks, ponchos, and your refillable drink cup without being too bulky.
A small crossbody or sling bag is ideal ā itās easier to carry and more likely to fit into free ride lockers (available at most major attractions). Avoid bulky backpacks unless youāre fine using paid lockers. We love these:
šØ Cooling Towels & Fan
Game changers in the Florida heat ā especially while queuing for rides or waiting for a poolside drink. I can’t cope without my fan in the Florida Heat!
š Comfy Walking Shoes
Trust us ā your feet will thank you. Break them in before you go and bring blister plasters just in case. We love these shoes, we love Sketcher’s for pushing our feet to the limits, and they dry fast!

š± Waterproof Phone Pouch
Perfect for Volcano Bay and unexpected downpours. This is a MUST! I’ve used them for my phone, payment cards, ID, tips, money and never had a issue.
